Start with the outcome, not the technology
Before you compare vendors, write down the business outcome you need: more qualified leads, fewer hours spent on manual work, a product launched by a specific date. A strong partner will question and sharpen that outcome before talking about frameworks.
If a vendor jumps straight to a technology recommendation without asking about your users, processes and constraints, treat it as a warning sign.
Look for relevant, verifiable experience
Ask for work similar to yours in scope, industry or technology, and ask to speak with a past client. Case studies should explain the problem, the approach and the measurable result, not just show screenshots.
Understand how they deliver
A mature partner can describe their delivery process clearly. Ask how they run discovery, how often you will see working software, and how they handle changes to scope.
- A paid discovery or scoping phase before a fixed estimate
- Demos of working software every one to two weeks
- A named project lead and direct access to engineers
- Automated testing and code review as standard
- Written documentation and a handover plan
Check communication and time-zone fit
Most project problems are communication problems. Agree on meeting cadence, response times and tools upfront. For international teams, confirm the daily overlap with your working hours and who is available for urgent issues.
Ask hard questions about security and IP
Your partner will handle your data and build assets you depend on. Confirm that you will own the source code and intellectual property, that NDAs and data-processing agreements are in place, and that access follows least-privilege principles.
Compare pricing models, not just prices
Fixed-price contracts suit well-defined scopes. Dedicated-team or time-and-materials models suit evolving products. The cheapest quote often hides assumptions; ask each vendor to list what is excluded and how change requests are priced.
The short version
Choose the partner who understands your outcome, shows relevant results, communicates clearly, protects your data and IP, and is transparent about cost. If you would like a second opinion on a proposal or scope, Norvexa is happy to help.
